Waterford Fringe Festival have announced the participation of internationally acclaimed artist, Gottfried Helnwein, in this years Festival. Although born and educated in post-war Vienna, Helnwein now lives in his castle in Co Waterford. He has exhibited worldwide and is delighted with the opportunity to show his work in what he considers his home, Waterford, next September in Greyfriers Gallery as part of the Fringe Festival. ...

During the tour, curator Blake Milteer stopped the group in front of German artist Gottfried Helnwein’s “Epiphany” (“Adoration of the Magi”). In the large-scale piece that resembles a documentary black and white photograph, a Madonnaesque mother displays her baby to attentive Nazi officers. The baby’s likeness to Hitler is uncanny. Despite, or perhaps because of the distinctly sinister overtones in the piece, it’s easy to be drawn in by the piece.

In Irland habe ich begonnen, Landschaften zu malen. Eigentlich hatte ich immer nur Menschen als Thema. Aber der Ausblick von meinem Haus in Tipperary ist so unglaublich, man staunt, wie schön das ist. Man sieht nur Kühe, Berge und Schafe, kein Haus. Da habe ich gedacht: Landschaftsmaler müsste man sein! Und dann habe ich mich erinnert, dass die allerersten Bilder, die ich gemalt hatte, bevor ich auf die Akademie ging, kleine Landschaftsbilder waren, in der Nachfolge der Romantiker. Das hatte ich völlig vergessen. Die neuen Bilder habe ich inzwischen im Museum in Cork gezeigt, die Ausstellung hieß „Irish and other Landscapes“. ...

Der 68 Jahre alte Regisseur und war's zufrieden. Kein Buhruf drang aus dem Publikum. Nur seine Fans schienen gekommen zu sein, um ihn zu verabschieden. Der Applaus galt auch dem Bühnenbild, das Österreichs Schockmaler und Kresnik-Begleiter Gottfried Helnwein einmal mehr mit reichlich spritzendem Theaterblut, Flammen, Dampf und viel Getöse in Szene setzte. ...

Some of the biggest names in contemporary art are coming to the Denver Art Museum as part of an unprecedented year-long lecture series., funded by internationally known collectors Vicki and Kent Logan of Vail.
The lineup, titled "Logan Lectures 2007," will feature 10 major artists from around the world whose works are on view in the museum's new $110 million Hamilton Building. The series begins in January and runs through December. At City Hall on Thursday, Nov. 16, the Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution commemorating the 68th anniversary of Kristallnacht and recognizing Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein for his contributions to assuring that the Holocaust will never be forgotten.
